BROWN FISH OWLS in Southern Turkey. Brown Fish Owls are very rare and the only country they live in Europe is Turkey. Take this tour from Side to watch these beautiful, unique birds. For years Brown Fish-owl was considered to be extinct in the Western Pale-arctic. There are historic records from Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Turkey indicating a much larger range but, since the last records in Israel, there had been no sightings until a pair was found by chance in Antalya, Turkey. During extensive surveys in 2009 and 2010, an additional five pairs were found indicating that there may be a viable remnant breeding population present. This is possibly a separate species, based on vocalization. Brown Fish Owls are very rare in Europe and the only country they live in Europe is Turkey and they are estimated to be approximately 10 couples living in. 3 to 4 couples are estimated to live in Antalya region. “Very good and excellent services and guiding” Amazing trip to see these fantastic birds! Everything worked perfect with the pick-up at the hotel in Side at 04.00, transport to the ferry and the short boat trip in the dark to wait for the dawn and the owls. Even before dawn we saw the pair coming to rest in a tree, and then spent an hour or two watching them around their nest and in nearby trees on the mountain side. We also heard tawny owl and scoops owl calling from the boat. We did our trip the 14 of may 2012. Excellent birding!
