Although not well known for game viewing the Western Cape has several fantastic private game reserves offering the Big 5 experience. Our focus is to spend an exciting morning at a private game reserve for a taste of an African safari on the edge of the semi-arid, Karoo region. After an early, 7am, collection our route heads east past historic towns and through wine lands. We drive under the mountain, through the Huguenot Tunnel, into the cliff-sided, dramatic Hex River Valley which opens out into the spectacular, sweeping Breede River Valley region. We spend the morning at a private game reserve which includes: a welcome drink, a 2-3 hour long Game Drive with experienced rangers; a visit to the Animal Rehabilitation Centre followed by a delicious buffet lunch. In the afternoon you have several options: to visit the Kleinplasie Cultural History Centre in the town of Worcester (and see what life was like in colonial times), or have a wine tasting at a Paarl or Wellington wine region estate. Our return route will be via the scenic, winding Bain's Kloof Pass and through the historic town of Wellington arriving back in Cape Town.
