In Maramures, before WWII, they were living 38.000 Jews. After Holocaust, only 2.000 of them survived, mostly emigrating soon after. Today, Sighet is the only place where several dozens Maramures's Jews are still living. On our tour we will visit in Sighet the only remaining Synagogue, the 4.000 graves Jewish Cemetery, the Holocaust Monument, the Elie Wiesel House- The Jewish Museum and a typical rabbi's house restored in the Village Museum. Then, we will see or several other cemeteries, or remains of other Synagogues and Jewish houses and shops, placed in different parts of Maramures, including the village where the Seven Dwarfs of Auschwitz, Ovitz brothers, were born.
